Exploring Cristina Fiorenza’s Artistic Journey Through Ceramics and Human Experience

Cristina Fiorenza's artistic journey (2022-2024) blends architecture and ceramics, exploring themes of impermanence, memory, and human connection through vibrant, innovative sculptures.

As an architect and artist, I have woven together these two paths throughout my creative journey.

My exploration in art encompasses a variety of mediums, including installations, painting, and especially ceramic drawing, which has taken on a prominent role in my recent work.

Artistic Themes and Inspirations

My artistic narrative is anchored in themes that reveal the fleeting essence of human existence.

I draw inspiration from the spontaneous forms of architecture found in the edges of urban spaces, contrasting the harshness of informal settlements with dreams of an ideal paradise.

Each ceramic piece I make often takes the form of a traditional vase, yet they transcend mere functionality to become protective vessels—homes that harbor memories and sentiments.

The glazes that adorn these creations meld beautifully with their shapes, speaking of compassion, nostalgia, and depth.

The shapes I craft aren’t imposed but rather emerge organically, guided by a distinct design philosophy.

The evolution of each sculpture begins with early sketches and culminates in intricate forms, sometimes involving multiple elements.

I have also designed a vertical ceramic garden composed of interlinked vessels, fostering a harmonious relationship between plant life and the glazes, which culminates in a dramatic wall sculpture where organic and man-made elements intertwine.

I view ceramics as a medium that bridges tradition, innovation, artistry, and essential human stories.

Current Series and Notable Works

My ceramic sculptures echo universal ideas of decay and transience, resonating with the human experience on many levels.

As I navigate these themes, I move from the romantic allure of ceramics back to the essence of one’s roots.

This journey results in pieces that capture moments in a wider artistic exploration—though fragile, they possess a tangible presence that exudes a raw, brutalist quality.
