The University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point is excited to announce a full-time, tenure-track position for an Assistant Professor in Studio Art, focusing on Ceramics, set to begin in August 2025.

The Department of Art and Art History is looking for an innovative educator who is enthusiastic about teaching ceramics at all levels.

You’ll have the chance to teach foundational courses while also leading advanced classes that align with your unique interests and expertise.

Our programs encourage a holistic approach to learning, promoting interdisciplinary exploration.

We hope to find a candidate who can effectively present art concepts that resonate with contemporary visual culture and theory.

We particularly value applicants with diverse experience in three-dimensional media.

Key Qualifications:

  • A Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art
  • Proven experience in teaching ceramics at the university level
  • A dedication to maintaining an active professional creative practice
  • Strong knowledge of ceramic history and contemporary practices

About the Department: School of Design & Communication

The Art and Art History Program is a key component of the School of Design and Communication within the esteemed College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point.

Our vibrant program offers Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees, as well as minors in Studio Arts and Art History.

As a notable liberal arts institution and one of 13 four-year campuses in the University of Wisconsin System, we are proud to offer a diverse range of professional and liberal arts degree options, including Studio Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, Media Studies, and Professional Communication.

Notably, we are the only university in Wisconsin where all fine arts programs (art and design, dance, music, and theatre) hold national accreditation.

Our modern ceramics studio occupies 2,500 square feet, making it a bright and inviting space with both LED and natural lighting.

It is equipped with thirteen throwing wheels, a slab roller, an extruder, and a pug mill, alongside specialized equipment for mold-making and slip-casting.

We also have a separate kiln room measuring 589 square feet, featuring three electric kilns with digital controls and one gas kiln.

The facility includes dedicated areas for glaze mixing and greenware storage, creating an atmosphere that encourages creativity in a well-ventilated environment.

This tenure-track position comes with an academic year contract, and the salary will be commensurate with your qualifications and experience.
